When a person begins on the path of purifying the soul, they should have a goal in mind, which is attaining nisbah — a lasting connection with Allah ﷻ. Achieving this requires more than just taking the first step, but a sustained effort for an extended period of time. For a person who attains nisbah, the sunnah and shari’ah become dominant in their life and they are quick to turn back to Allah ﷻ whenever they make any mistakes. There are three points to highlight about attaining nisbah: the first being that it requires a person to spend time purifying their heart from sins and filth that build up over time; the second is that it requires tremendous sacrifice, either by a person being devoted and dedicated to pleasing Allah ﷻ in all of their actions, or by remaining patient and cognizant of Allah ﷻ when any great difficulty falls upon them; the third, and perhaps most important, is that anyone can attain nisbah as long as they have a deep desire for Allah ﷻ to bless them with it.
