Blindness is a condition in which the retina is unable to perceive and transmit light visually; on the other end, however, an abundance of light also can be blinding for a person. Similarly, deafness is when the ears are not able to perceive sound, but the overamplification of sound can also inhibit the ears from hearing. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Your love of something is blinding and deafening.” Through this, it is clear that fervent love for aspects of this transient world are why we are unable to see and hear the divine signs that are present around us. This love should rather be directed toward Allah ﷻ, and the sign of a true believer is that their love for Allah ﷻ is so intense that it blinds and deafens them to the vanities of this world. Therefore, during these special nights of Ramadan, we should strive, and proclaim our love to Allah ﷻ, and then beg that He reciprocate this proclamation.
