The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, despite their many accolades, are identified by the greater community as Sahabah, a title that emphasizes their suhbah, or physical companionship with the Prophet ﷺ. By coming into his ﷺ physical company, their status instantaneously changed from “believer” to Sahabi, which would include them amongst the greatest generation of people. From this we learn the value of suhbah. Today, human interaction is increasingly replaced by virtual communication. The heart, however, benefits from direct interaction, be it in the company of people of knowledge and piety, the company of the poor and downtrodden in the community, or simply from gatherings in which the hearts of other believers are present. Suhbah, hence, is essential to the progression of every Muslim.
