The definition of arrogance is to magnify the self and its characteristics, assuming self-sufficiency, while forgetting that Allah ﷻ is the bestower of all things. There are multiple ways by which we can approach blessings. One way is not to recognize them at all — which results in consistently low self-esteem, by thinking that you have no talents, qualities, or abilities. Another way is to recognize your blessings, but to attribute them to yourself instead of Allah ﷻ — this is arrogance. The middle-ground, which is the optimal approach, is to recognize your blessings and subsequently attribute them to Allah ﷻ, who is the true bestower of all blessings.

Arrogance is pure ignorance, and is cured through knowledge. If we are arrogant about something that was not in our control (health, intelligence, lineage), know that these blessings did not come from us and can easily be taken away. If we are arrogant of something that seemingly was from our own control (good deeds, wealth earned), reflect on the origin of tools that facilitated these blessings, which is none other than Allah ﷻ. We should always attribute our blessings to Allah ﷻ and be grateful to Him, and if we do so, Allah ﷻ has said He will increase us in those blessings.
