In the pursuit of happiness, we often seek pleasure in the things of this world. We seek out the best foods, purchase the most expensive and luxurious homes, the newest technology, and top tier cars; we acquire the discipline necessary to advance in our careers and to train our bodies to their optimum fitness. We are constantly feeding our bodies with things of the world, in the hopes that we attain happiness in our soul. However, the food of the body is not the food of the soul. The food of the soul comes from things appointed by Allah ﷻ, and we must feed the soul its proper diet in order for it to be healthy. If we do not feed the soul, it slowly begins to wither away and eventually will die. Unhappiness is a sign of the malnutrition of the soul. Therefore, we must feed the soul in order to attain the happiness we all so desperately seek.
