The Prophet ﷺ was immersed in serving the people around him throughout his life. As his followers, we must also adopt this same quality of service into our lives. The Prophet ﷺ stated: “All creation are the dependents of Allah, and the most beloved of creation to Allah is the one who is best toward His dependents.” When we take responsibility for Allah’s creation, Allah ﷻ takes responsibility for us. As Allah ﷻ states in the Qur’an, “Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.” In our lives, we can either wait for difficulties to fall upon us, or we can take the burden upon ourselves to serve the creation, which will protect us from the calamities of this world. Another benefit to service is earning the sincere du’as of others for ourselves.

There are three groups of people that we must direct our service towards. Firstly, it is essential that we serve our parents, as this an indirect way of showing gratitude to Allah ﷻ — our parents were the means through which Allah ﷻ gave us life and enabled us with the chance to enter His paradise. Secondly, along with our parents, we must serve the rest of our family; we should keep in mind that any time we serve our families for the sake of Allah ﷻ, we are increasing in rank. Lastly, we must strive to serve all of Allah’s creation. As the Prophet ﷺ stated, “A person has not reached the pinnacle of their faith until they love for others what they love for themselves.”
